ADAFP Statement on the Situation of Aliou Bah, Leader of Guinea’s Liberal Democratic Movement (MoDeL)
The African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress (ADAFP) welcomes the reported presidential pardon granted to Aliou Bah, leader of Guinea’s Liberal Democratic Movement (MoDeL), and other political prisoners. However, we are deeply concerned by reports that Aliou Bah remains subject to compulsory military-camp training for 45 days under the designation of civic supervision and social reintegration.
A presidential pardon must lead to genuine freedom, not continued restrictions on political leaders. ADAFP calls on the Guinean authorities to respect Aliou Bah’s fundamental rights, guarantee his immediate and unconditional freedom, and end all forms of intimidation and persecution of political actors.
We reaffirm our solidarity with Aliou Bah, MoDeL, and all Guinean democrats working for freedom, democracy, and the rule of law. Guinea’s political future must be built through democratic dialogue, respect for fundamental freedoms, and peaceful political competition—not the intimidation or restriction of opposition leaders.
