Membership Procedures

Join us in building a democratic, free, and prosperous Africa by becoming part of a pan-African alliance committed to shared values, meaningful participation, and collective action.

Categories of Membership

Article 10

Full Members

Liberal, democratic, and progressive political parties or coalitions committed to ADAFP's principles.

Associate Members

Civil society organizations, youth and women's groups, or think tanks aligned with ADAFP's mission.

National Chapters

Country-level structures organized by liberal leaders, parliamentarians, or activists supporting ADAFP's objectives.

Membership Principles

Membership in ADAFP is founded on a shared commitment to liberal democracy, freedom, human rights, social justice, and inclusive progress, as articulated in the Casablanca Declaration and the Governance Charter.

Members are expected to uphold ethical conduct, respect internal democracy and pluralism, comply with ADAFP's governance framework, and actively contribute to cooperation, solidarity, and democratic development across Africa.

Application Process

    Submit Application

    Applications are submitted to the Executive Committee (EC).

    Committee Review

    The Executive Committee reviews applications and approves them by a simple majority vote.

  3. 3
    General Assembly Ratification

    Admission is ratified by the next General Assembly.

Rights and Responsibilities of Members

Article 12

Rights of Members
  • ✓ Participate in ADAFP meetings, programs, and elections
  • ✓ Vote in the General Assembly according to membership category
  • ✓ Propose policies, projects, and initiatives
Responsibilities of Members
  • ✓ Uphold ADAFP's principles as articulated in the Casablanca Declaration
  • ✓ Respect the Governance Charter and by-laws
  • ✓ Pay membership fees promptly
  • ✓ Actively support ADAFP's programs and regional cooperation efforts

Why Participation Matters

Africa's democratic future cannot be shaped by institutions alone, but by active, committed actors working together across borders. By engaging with ADAFP, members amplify their voices, share experience and expertise, and gain access to a continental platform that strengthens advocacy, political credibility, and collective influence in shaping reforms, policies, and public debate at national, regional, and continental levels.

Participation also matters because it builds solidarity and capacity. Through cooperation, training, dialogue, and joint initiatives, members enhance their organizational strength, leadership skills, and strategic impact, particularly for youth and women. By acting together rather than in isolation, participants contribute to a resilient pan-African movement capable of defending democratic values, promoting inclusive development, and delivering lasting change for present and future generations.

Termination or Suspension of Membership · Article 13

Membership may be suspended or terminated by the Executive Committee, subject to confirmation by a two-thirds majority vote of the General Assembly. The concerned member retains the right to a fair hearing by the Code of Conduct Committee before any final decision is made.
