Issued July 30, 2026

Tribute to Hon. Senator Donatille Mukabalisa (1960–2026)

It is with profound sorrow that the African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress (ADAFP) has received the heartbreaking news of the passing of Hon. Senator Donatille Mukabalisa, leader of the Liberal Party of Rwanda, founding member of ADAFP, distinguished stateswoman, and one of Africa's most respected democratic leaders.

Hon. Senator Donatille Mukabalisa dedicated her life to public service, democracy, constitutional governance, and the advancement of the people of Rwanda and Africa. As Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies from 2013 and later as Senator in 2024, she earned widespread respect for her integrity, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to democratic institutions.

For the ADAFP family, her loss is deeply personal. Senator Mukabalisa was not only a founding member of our alliance but also one of its principal architects. She played a decisive role in the establishment of ADAFP, offering her vision, experience, and steadfast support during its formative period. Her leadership and commitment were instrumental in ensuring the success of our First General Assembly, helping transform the dream of a continental democratic alliance into a lasting reality.

Throughout her engagement with ADAFP, she consistently championed dialogue, cooperation among democratic forces, women's leadership, good governance, and the peaceful advancement of liberal democratic values across Africa. She inspired all of us through her humility, professionalism, and remarkable ability to build consensus.

Today, Africa has lost an outstanding public servant, Rwanda has lost one of its most distinguished daughters, and ADAFP has lost a cherished friend, founding leader, and guiding voice. Her legacy will continue to inspire future generations of democrats committed to freedom, justice, human dignity, and African unity.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, member parties, and the entire ADAFP family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, the Liberal Party of Rwanda, the people of Rwanda, and all those whose lives she touched through her exemplary service.

May her memory remain a source of inspiration, and may her lifelong dedication to democracy, peace, and public service continue to illuminate the path for generations to come.

Rest in peace, Hon. Senator Donatille Mukabalisa. Your legacy will endure.
