Press Statement on the Situation in Sudan

The General Assembly of the African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress (ADAFP), convened in Casablanca, Kingdom of Morocco, with participants representing over 25 African countries, has adopted a Resolution on the situation in the Republic of the Sudan.

 

The Assembly strongly condemns the ongoing violence, aggression, and grave human rights violations attributed to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The continued conflict has resulted in unacceptable loss of life and immense suffering, particularly among women, children, and the elderly.

ADAFP calls for the immediate cessation of hostilities and urges all external actors to refrain from providing direct or indirect support to armed groups engaged in the conflict. The Alliance further appeals for expanded and unhindered humanitarian assistance to affected civilian populations.

The Assembly expresses its full solidarity with Sudanese democratic and civilian forces striving for a peaceful, inclusive, and civilian-led democratic transformation. The people of Sudan deserve stability, accountable governance, and a future grounded in constitutional order and the rule of law.

ADAFP calls upon the African Union to intensify its diplomatic engagement with all relevant stakeholders and to lead coordinated continental efforts aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire, facilitating inclusive dialogue, and restoring peace.

The President of the African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress, Dr. Mmusi Maimane, emphasized: “Beyond the urgent need to end the violence, it is imperative to create an inclusive and credible pathway toward peaceful political dialogue and elections within the year. We respectfully call upon the African Union to intensify its engagement and leadership efforts. This moment requires coordinated continental action to safeguard lives and restore stability.”

As a continental institution committed to reform, freedom, and inclusive political progress, ADAFP reaffirms its belief that Africa’s future must be defined by peace, democratic governance, and shared prosperity. The time has come for Africans to fully reap the benefits of stability, dignity, and progress across the continent.
