Statement on the situation in Mali
The African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress expresses its deep consternation and absolute indignation at the spiral of violence currently striking the Republic of Mali. The coordinated terrorist attacks targeting Bamako, Kidal, and Gao constitute an exceptionally grave assault on national sovereignty and the stability of the entire Sahel region.
It is with immense sorrow that the Alliance learned of the tragic death of the Minister of Defense, Mr. Sadio Camara, who fell during these events. His passing, along with those of numerous high-ranking military officials and innocent civilians, represents an inestimable loss for the Malian nation and for the struggle for security in the Sahel.
The Alliance condemns in the strongest possible terms these criminal and cowardly acts, which seek to decapitate defense institutions and sow chaos. We offer our most sincere condolences to the family of Minister Sadio Camara, to the families of all the victims, to the Transitional Government, and to the brotherly people of Mali.
In the face of this national ordeal, the Alliance reaffirms its unwavering support for the Malian Armed Forces and calls for a sacred unity around the ideals of peace and liberty. The international community must strengthen its solidarity with Mali to definitively eradicate the scourge of terrorism. The Alliance remains convinced that the sacrifice of these great servants of the State will not be in vain and that the Malian people's will for progress will triumph over obscurantism.
