ADAFP JOHANNESBURG 2026: DEMOCRACY IN ACTION
7–8 May 2026 | Holiday Inn Rosebank, Johannesburg, South Africa
The African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress (ADAFP) is organising its first event in the Southern African region on 7 and 8 May 2026 in Johannesburg, South Africa, bringing together African democratic leaders, policy experts, and institutional partners for two days of high-level dialogue and strategic decision-making.
The event will feature an expert panel on the future of African democracy, with contributions from Dr Khulu Mbatha (Adviser to the ADAFP President), the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), Dr Falala of Plus94 Research, and Mr Moeletsi Mbeki of SAIIA.
A dedicated session — Voices from the Region — will bring together distinguished leaders from across Southern and Eastern Africa, including Hon. Tendai Biti (MDC, Zimbabwe), Mr Dumelang Saleshando (BCP, Botswana), Dr Adalberto Costa Júnior (UNITA, Angola), Mr Venâncio Mondlane (ANAMOLA, Mozambique), Mr Gervais Henrie (LDS, Seychelles), Hon. Clement Stambuli (CEO, Lilongwe City Council, Malawi), and Mr Manuel de Araújo (Mayor of Quelimane, Mozambique).
The event will also include an in-person meeting of the ADAFP Executive Committee.
The Johannesburg gathering will be accompanied by the official launching of the ADAFP Think Tank, ADAFP’s pan-African research and policy institution, headquartered in South Africa. The Think Tank will be led by Dr Khulu Mbatha, Adviser to the ADAFP President, who brings extensive experience in South African public life, democratic governance, and pan-African affairs.
