Historic Launch of the African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress (ADAFP)
Rabat, Morocco — December 8, 2025
A new chapter in Africa’s democratic transformation begins with the official founding of the African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress (ADAFP).
This historic initiative brings together democratic, liberal, and progressive political forces, civic leaders, and organizations from across the continent around a shared vision: to build a free, prosperous, and just Africa.
The founding meeting of the ADAFP was held online on December 7, 2025, bringing together more than twenty political leaders and representatives from across Africa.
Founding Declaration
The founding declaration of the ADAFP reaffirms the Alliance’s commitment to:
Promote Integrity: Uphold the values of freedom, democracy, transparency, and judicial independence.
Empower Agents of Change: Strengthen the capacity of political parties and civic movements that carry a modern vision for Africa.
Advance Inclusion: Encourage and empower youth and women to play leading roles in public and political life.
Unite Reform Efforts: Build strong connections among liberal and progressive actors to promote sustainable and meaningful reforms.
Mobilize International Solidarity: Establish partnerships with global institutions committed to democratic development and good governance.
Support the African Union’s Agenda 2063 for peace, prosperity, and continental integration.
Governance and Next Steps
To ensure credibility and transparency, the ADAFP will be guided by a Governance Charter guaranteeing independence, internal pluralism, and democratic rotation of leadership roles.
The founding meeting also elected a Preparatory Committee tasked with organizing the First Constituent General Assembly, which will be held in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco.
During this General Assembly, the ADAFP will adopt its final Charter, elect its Executive Committee and Advisory Council, and define its Strategic Roadmap for 2025–2030.
A Call for Unity and Commitment
The ADAFP calls upon all democratic forces, civic organizations, young leaders, and intellectuals across Africa and the diaspora to join this transformative movement.
“Africa deserves strong, credible, and responsible voices capable of defending the rule of law, promoting inclusive prosperity, and ensuring a sustainable future for all,” declared the founding members.
Together, the African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress aims to become the continental platform for democratic renewal, progressive governance, and collective action — for today’s Africa and the generations to come.
