Momentum Builds in Casablanca Ahead of ADAFP Founding Assembly
Press Statement
Casablanca, 12 February 2026
On the eve of the historic Founding General Assembly of the African Democratic Alliance of Freedom and Progress (ADAFP), leaders and delegates from 16 African countries gathered in Casablanca for a day marked by solidarity, dialogue, and African liberal cooperation.
An evening reception was graciously hosted at the headquarters of the Constitutional Union in Casablanca, where delegates met with Party Secretary General Hon. Mohamed Joudar and senior members of the leadership. The meeting provided an important opportunity to exchange views on democratic governance, institutional reform, economic development, and the future of liberal and progressive movements across Africa.
Later in the evening, delegates were guests of an official dinner hosted by the Constitutional Union at the Casablanca Marriott Hotel, where participants continued their discussions in a spirit of friendship and partnership, while enjoying Morocco’s renowned hospitality. The event allowed representatives from across the continent to strengthen networks, build trust, and lay the groundwork for long-term cooperation within the new Alliance.
A Historic Gathering
The Founding General Assembly, taking place on 13–14 February 2026 in Casablanca, is expected to bring together delegates from approximately 40 political parties and organizations representing 22 African countries. By the end of 2026, organizers anticipate that the Alliance will expand to include more than 60 member parties and organizations across the continent.
Toward a New Continental Platform
The African Democratic Alliance of Freedom and Progress aims to establish a strong, coordinated platform for democratic, liberal, and progressive political forces across Africa. The Alliance seeks to promote constitutionalism, rule of law, economic freedom, social justice, youth empowerment, gender equality, and regional cooperation.
The atmosphere on the first day in Casablanca reflects a shared conviction: Africa’s democratic and reformist forces must work together across borders to address common challenges and shape a future rooted in freedom, responsibility, and opportunity.
The Founding General Assembly begins tomorrow with high expectations and a clear commitment to building a durable continental alliance for democratic transformation.
