
Olivier Kamitatu Etsu is a senior Congolese political leader and Member of the Board of Trustees of the African Democratic Alliance for Freedom and Progress (ADAFP), bringing extensive experience in governance, democratic transition, and international political cooperation.
A prominent figure in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, he served as President of the Transitional National Assembly from 2003 to 2006, playing a central role in the country’s post-conflict transition. Under his leadership, the National Assembly oversaw the drafting of the Constitution of the Third Republic, adopted by referendum in 2005, marking a key milestone in the restoration of constitutional order.
Kamitatu has also held several high-level government positions, including Minister of Planning, where he led major national development strategies, including poverty reduction programs and international cooperation frameworks. His work contributed to strengthening economic planning and institutional capacity in the DRC.
Throughout his career, he has been actively involved in peace negotiations and political dialogue processes, participating in major international negotiations that helped shape the country’s transition toward stability and democratic governance.
At the continental and global levels, Kamitatu has played a significant role in liberal political movements. He served as President of the Africa Liberal Network (2012–2017) and holds leadership roles within Liberal International, contributing to the promotion of democratic values, political pluralism, and international cooperation.
He is also a founding member of political movements in the DRC, including the Alliance for the Renewal of Congo (ARC) and later Ensemble pour la République, where he serves as a senior advisor and spokesperson.
With an academic background in economics and development, and decades of political and institutional experience, Kamitatu is recognized as a key figure in African democratic and political development.
As a Member of the Board of Trustees of ADAFP, he contributes to the Alliance’s strategic direction, institutional credibility, and continental engagement, supporting its mission to advance democracy, governance, and sustainable development across Africa.
